I built IBlackBeauty because later is the most
dangerous word in a Black woman’s health vocabulary.
My name is Nellie.
I am a Board-Certified Acute
Care Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner with
years of experience managing complex, high-risk
chronic conditions in acute care settings.
I have sat at the bedside of Black women in their
40s and 50s arriving in hypertensive crisis. In
kidney failure. After strokes that could have
been prevented. Brilliant, powerful women who
had been too busy, too strong, and too underserved
by a healthcare system that never gave them the
clinical knowledge they needed early enough.
That experience changed everything about why
I practice.
I created IBlackBeauty for one reason:
Black and Latina women face the highest rates of
hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and kidney
failure of any group in America — and consistently
receive the least personalized, least culturally
informed health guidance.
Generic health advice was not built for our bodies,
our stress levels, our hormones, or our lives.
IBlackBeauty exists to close that gap — with
evidence-based clinical knowledge written
specifically for us, by one of us.
